Marin Community Clinics, founded in 1972, is today, a multi-clinic network with a wide array of integrated primary care, dental, behavioral, specialty and referral services. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, the Medical Director of Provider Recruitment and Sustainability plays a critical leadership role in ensuring a high-quality, mission-aligned, and sustainable provider workforce within our organization. This role bridges clinical leadership with strategic recruitment, retention, and workforce well-being initiatives to support the long-term success of our care teams and organization. Working closely with the office of the CMO, the Human Resources Department, senior leadership as well as site and departmental clinical directors, this role helps assess provider supply and demand, monitor open provider positions, optimize the provider applicant experience, expedite and streamline the onboarding process and increase awareness of MCC as an employer of choice for high quality providers. Additionally, this role works to promote drivers of provider satisfaction, efficiency and retention by innovating systems to optimize provider performance and sustainability. The Medical Director of Provider Recruitment and Retention also models Marin Community Clinics’ mission and values as a clinical leader and as a care provider.
This is a 0.8-1.0 FTE role with 0.4FTE administrative time and remainder clinical time.
Recruitment Strategy & Oversight
· Lead the design and implementation of a comprehensive provider recruitment strategy, aligned with organizational growth, patient care goals, and access needs.
· Serve as the clinical lead and subject matter expert in recruitment processes, working closely with Human Resources and physician recruiters.
· Oversee the end-to-end recruitment lifecycle for physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs), including candidate sourcing, screening, interviewing, and onboarding.
· Represent the organization at national and regional conferences, medical schools, and residency/fellowship programs to attract top clinical talent.
Retention & Workforce Sustainability
· Develop and champion strategies to enhance provider engagement, reduce burnout, and promote professional fulfillment.
· Collaborate with HR, Operations, and Clinical Leadership to support onboarding, mentorship, and career development programs.
· Monitor and assess provider turnover trends; implement data-informed solutions to promote long-term retention.
· Lead or participate in work-life balance, wellness, and provider satisfaction initiatives
Clinical & Organizational Leadership
· Collaborate with the CMO, ACMO(s) and other clinical directors to align provider workforce planning with clinical care models and population health goals.
· Serve as a liaison between senior/executive leadership and clinical leadership regarding workforce needs and priorities.
· Provide guidance on staffing models, succession planning, and future workforce projections.
Clinical Responsibilities
· Provide direct primary patient care within scope, serving as a role model for best practices in care delivery and adherence to standardized procedures and protocols.
· Maintains and supports the comprehensive care of a panel of patients consistent with organizational needs.
· Provides patient follow up and referrals as needed and within scope of medical licensure and training.
Education and Experience
· MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
· Board certification or Board Eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or Pediatrics.
· Unrestricted Medical License for the State of California.
· Current BLS certification.
· Minimum 5 years of clinical experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
· Experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC).
· MPH, MHA, MBA, or healthcare leadership training preferred but required.

· Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams with cultural humility and collaborative spirit.
· Strong understanding of community health, FQHC operations, and underserved populations
· Knowledge of evidence-based clinical practices
· Ability to navigate and lead through change
· Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
· Bilingual or multilingual capabilities preferred but not required
· Prior use of an Electronic Health Record (EHR). Epic experience highly desired.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
· Fulfill immunization and fit for duty requirements.
This is a hybrid administrative/clinical position.
· Primarily works in a clinical office environment, with occasional travel between sites.
· Limited remote administrative work is possible, as approved by CMO
· May require occasional evening or weekend hours to meet organizational needs
· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
