Marin Community Clinics, founded in 1972, is today, a multi-clinic network with a wide array of integrated primary care, dental, behavioral, specialty and referral services. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we provide vital health services to almost 40,000 individuals annually in Marin County. The Clinics regularly receive national awards from the Health Resources and Services Administrations (HRSA). The Family or Internal Medicin Extended Access Physician supports the primary care needs of patients at MCC when their Primary Care Providers are unavailable due to planned or unplanned time off, short-term leave or sabbatical, or when PCP access is limited for other reasons. This physician provides and manages quality health care services to patients of Marin Community Clinics, including diagnosis, treatment, referral and follow-up, as indicated. The Family Medicine Physician provides care to patients consistent with his/her training and expertise, and appropriate to the ambulatory care setting provided.

Responsibilities

· Provides and manages direct patient care for both urgent and routine/chronic conditions and concerns, including history taking, physical examination, evaluation,

  assessment, diagnosis, medication management, and diagnostic and treatment planning.

· Refers patients for specialty consultation appropriately and as necessary.

· Advances patient treatment plans that are started or outlined by PCPs, with clear documentation of care provided, in the PCP’s absence.

· Maintains an updated electronic medical record and completes clinical documentation in the Electronic Health Record, in accordance with documentation standards, within 72 hours of visits.

· Provides written or verbal updates or sign-outs to PCPs, when appropriate.

· Assists with follow-up of diagnostic labs and studies that are ordered or reviewed in the PCPs absence.

· Follows established departmental clinical and operational policies, procedures, and protocols.

· Maintains professional relationships with staff and patients.

· Performs other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve clinic goals and objectives, as directed by the Medical Director.

· Fulfills care team responsibilities as outlined in the Care Team Patient Center Medical Home Procedure.

· Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

· Valid and unrestricted license issued by the Medical Board of California to practice medicine.

· Board certified or Board Eligible in Specified Medical Specialty.

· 3-5 years of directly related experience as a physician, which may include residency in a directly related medical specialty.

· Current registration issued by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) allowing the prescription of drugs.

· Active Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

· Prior experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) a plus.

· EPIC Electronic Health Records (EHR) experiences a plus.

· Must maintain Continued Medical Education (CME) as required for certification renewals.

 

Required Skills and Abilities:

· Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.

· Ability to speak Spanish preferred.

· Knowledge of current evidence-based principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical care in the area of licensure and Board certification.

· Ability to deliver care via telephonic or video telemedicine visits, as necessary.

· Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care.

· Knowledge of relevant pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatments and the ability to prescribe and instruct patients in correct usage of medications.

· Knowledge of community diagnostic and patient care services in area of medical expertise.

· Ability to safely care for an average of 20 (18-22) patients per day.

· Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.

· Ability to supervise, lead, advise and support the training of Advanced Practice Providers (PAs and NPs) and students in area of expertise.

· Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

· Flexibility and adaptability to effectively rotate between multiple clinical sites and patient panels, as required by the practice.

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

· Fulfill immunization and fit for duty regulatory requirements.

· Prolonged standing, walking, and prolonged sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

· Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. and move medical equipment.

· Fine motor hand movements typical of performing standard clinical job duties.

· Vision and hearing sufficient to view, hear and interpret clinical data and physical exam findings.
