The Registered Nurse (Specialty Clinic – Infectious Disease) functions both independently and collaboratively in a team-based, integrated primary care model. This nurse supports complex case management, patient triage, health coaching, and chronic disease management while promoting quality improvement and patient-centered care. The RN has direct experience in community or primary care settings and is committed to serving underserved populations, particularly those living with HIV and communicable diseases

Responsibilities

Core RN Responsibilities:

  • Deliver culturally sensitive, patient-centered care aligned with clinic protocols and the California RN scope of practice.
  • Conduct in-person and telephonic triage using approved tools; assess and respond to pediatric and adult complaints.
  • Participate in patient visits and chronic disease management using motivational interviewing and health coaching.
  • Perform care coordination post-ED or hospital discharge.
  • Engage in quality improvement (QI) initiatives and PDSA cycles.
  • Administer medications and immunizations per protocol, including insulin, antibiotics, antivirals, pain medications, Kenalog, and oxygen/nebulizer therapies.
  • Conduct medication reconciliation and provide refills per clinic protocol.
  • Order labs, meds, and vaccines using standardized procedures; review and follow up on diagnostic results and consult summaries.
  • Support anticoagulant monitoring (e.g., PT/INR testing and dose titration).
  • Educate patients on chronic disease self-management (e.g., diabetes, asthma, heart failure).
  • Coordinate pharmacy refills and medication access, including specialty therapies.
  • Process referrals to public health and home-health services; complete infectious disease reporting to public health agencies.
  • Manage patient/provider inbox communications and lab/medical inquiries.
  • Respond to in-clinic emergencies and lead Code Blue responses; participate in crash cart and AED checks.
  • Support Medical Assistants and assist with pre-op assessments and lab/diagnostic coordination.
  • Document and retrieve data using EPIC EHR; assist with appointment scheduling and patient record review.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Specialty Responsibilities: Infectious Disease RN

  • Act as a clinical resource during the STD Drop-in Clinic.
  • Manage PrEP initiation and adherence for patients.
  • Conduct outreach to support engagement in care for HIV, TB, and Hep C patients.
  • Maintain infectious disease-specific protocols, including negative pressure room and PAPR upkeep.
  • Coordinate with Marin HHS for outbreak response and external ID referrals.
  • Participate in protocol development, ID case conferences, and consult triage.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • Active, unencumbered California RN license.
  • Current AHA BLS Certification.
  • Minimum 1 year RN experience; in community health or primary care preferred.
  • Previous experience working with patients living with HIV and other communicable diseases highly preferred.
  • Proficiency or familiarity with EPIC EHR.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Spanish bilingual preferred.
  • Able to work independently and follow clinical protocols.
  • Demonstrates cultural humility and commitment to equity in healthcare.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Fullfill immunization and fit for duty regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to sit and type for prolonged periods.
  • Capable of lifting up to 15 pounds.
  • Onsite position, onsite 5 days a week.
