Marin Community Clinics, founded in 1972, is today, a multi-clinic network with a wide array of integrated primary care, dental, behavioral, specialty and referral services. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we provide vital health services to almost 40,000 individuals annually in Marin County. The Clinics regularly receive national awards from the Health Resources and Services Administrations (HRSA). A Registered Dental Assistant Extended Function Supervisor is a licensed dental professional, specifically a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) who has completed additional training to perform expanded functions as established by the Dental Board of California, and is responsible for overseeing, and supervising other Registered Dental Assistant, Dental Assistants and sterilization technicians (back team office support group) within the dental clinics; essentially managing and training the back team office support group with advanced clinical skills while ensuring proper procedures are followed under a dentist's supervision.

Responsibilities

  • All duties and procedures that an RDA is authorized to perform as specified in and limited by the Dental Board of California (From the table for the Dental Auxiliary Duties Delegable by a Supervising Dentist) BPC section 1752.4. and established at Marin Community Clinics.
  • RDA in EXTENDED FUNCTIONS (RDAEF) BPC SECTION 1753.5 Licensed on or after January 1, 2010, pursuant to BPC sections 1753.5 and 1753.55 OR
  • RDA in EXTENDED FUNCTIONS (RDAEF) BPC SECTION 1753.6 Licensed prior to January 1, 2010, pursuant to BPC section 1753.6
  • Monitor supplies, inventory and requests supplies and stock treatment rooms.
  • Comply with all OSHA, Dental Board and MCC policies.
  • Oversee cleanliness of treatment rooms and instruments according to sterilization procedures according to OSHA regulations.
  • Provide maintenance on autoclave machines.
  • Provide weekly maintenance for water lines and changing traps in operatories.
  • Organize trays, instruments, and treatment room drawers always.
  • Ensure that office sterilization procedures are documented and always posted.
  • Promptly send out and monitor all dental laboratory cases.
  • Implement a preventative maintenance/cleaning schedule for dental equipment.
  • Maintain dental office emergency kits and nitrous oxygen tanks.
  • See that records are stored securely per HIPPA guidelines.
  • Assist in the administration of the recall system.
  • Other tasks as assigned by Dental Associate Director/Office Manager
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Dental Officer.

Supervisory Roles:  

  • Responsible for training, evaluating, and guiding other Registered Dental Assistants, including those with extended function licenses or Dental Assistants on proper techniques and compliance with regulations.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:  

  • Graduate of an ADA-accredited Dental Assistant Extended Function Program preferred.
  • Certified by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB)
  • Current CA State RDAEF
  • Have a minimum of three months of clinical practice as a registered Dental Assistant Extended Functions
  • Completed board-approved training in expanded functions.
  • State and radiology certifications required.
  • Experience in Electronic Health Records.
  • Current CPR Certification required.
  • Holds a board-approved certificate in infection control.
  • Completed a board-approved course in the state’s Practice Act.
  • 1-2 years Registered Dental Assistant Extended Function experience

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to perform all the duties of a Registered Dental Assistant Extended Functions as described by the Dental Board of California.
  • Flexibility in traveling to other clinics to help with staffing shortages.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced Community Health Clinic environment.
  • Bilingual skills (any language) are a plus.
  • Intermediate computers use experience, including MS Office/MS Outlook.
  • Ability to multitask and follow directions.
  • Must be able to assist the dentist with Extended Functions, nitrous oxide sedation and patient management.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and written in English.
  • Ability to explain treatment plans to patients effectively.
  • Must be able to always remain focused to properly support Dental Providers.
  • Must have legible handwriting for notations.
  • Excellent people skills.
  • Ability to provide feedback and guidance to other dental assistants.
  • Ability to work with children, and adults.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: 

  • May be required to occasionally lift at least 20 – 25lbs.
  • Prolonged standing, stooping, and reaching.
  • Pinch grip.
