Overview

Marin Community Clinics, founded in 1972, is today, a multi-clinic network with a wide array of integrated primary care, dental, behavioral, specialty and referral services. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we provide vital health services to almost 40,000 individuals annually in Marin County. The Clinics regularly receive national awards from the Health Resources and Services Administrations (HRSA). The behavioral health clinical supervisor (“BHC Supervisor”) serves in a clinical leadership and training capacity on the behavioral health team, and co-leads clinical supervision and implementation of Marin Community Clinic’s (“MCC”) ASW training program in Integrated Behavioral Health. This position provides clinical supervision to junior clinical staff, including ASWs in-process of obtaining licensure, and helps lead MCC’s ASW training fellowship focused on training bilingual/bicultural clinicians. The LCSW Clinical supervisor co-teaches weekly didactic seminars on a variety of topics related to integrated behavioral health practice. This position also provides assessment and treatment services to MCC patients across the lifespan with behavioral health needs. The behavioral health supervisor is considered an expert in behavioral health, and as such provides consultation, training and support to the healthcare team and other staff and providers in behavioral health. The behavioral health supervisor (LCSW) position is part of a dynamic, passionate and dedicated health care team, collaboratively working with medical providers, nurses, medical assistants, receptionists, and other members of the organization.

The BHC supervisor is a welcomed as part of the primary care team and is supported by the robust and dynamic behavioral health department through regular meetings, case conferences, and peer supervision.

 

SIGNING BONUS:

WORK SCHEDULE:

 

Hybrid Position, but will need to be in person three days a week.

 

Responsibilities

  • Supports the mission, vision, and values of MCC by collaboratively developing and communicating the vision for whole person care to patients, their families and co-workers.
  • Models the principles and practices of evidenced based communication, including skillful listening, displaying a willingness and ability to acknowledge the needs, expectations and values of others using reflective listening and other empathy conveyance techniques.
  • Models empathy and compassion for clients and their families, especially those with historically stigmatized conditions, such as chronic pain, addictive disorders, severe mental health conditions, homelessness and maladaptive behaviors such as anger problems, and through the use of non-stigmatizing speech (in communicating directly with patients or about patients).
  • Consistently contributes to creating and maintaining a supportive, compassionate, and encouraging work atmosphere for colleagues and co-workers.
  • Models and supports autonomy, self-efficacy and empowerment of co-workers and colleagues.
  • Models and practices cultural humility and curiosity.
  • Understands the overarching importance of the therapeutic alliance, and relationship-based care.
  • Provides evidence-based treatment to MCC patients (adults and children) with “mild to moderate” behavioral health needs, including assessment, diagnosis, therapeutic interventions, short term therapy, crisis intervention and safety planning, coaching, referrals, and case management in-person and via telehealth modalities.
  • Provides clinical and administrative supervision to junior LCSWs/Psychologists and/or unlicensed ASWs, in accordance with BBS standards.
  • May develop and lead or co-lead psychoeducational/therapeutic groups.
  • Skillfully engages patients and their families in their own healthcare and wellbeing, using strategies to increase their motivation and desire for improved wellbeing.
  • Collaboratively develops flexible scheduling practices to best meet patients’ needs, including a mix of scheduled appointments, unscheduled ‘warm-hand offs;’ and ‘check –ins.’ (In-person and/or via telehealth).
  • Shares knowledge and expertise in an accessible, respectful, and friendly manner with co- workers and colleagues, both in informal and formal learning activities.
  • Collaboratively develops multi-disciplinary workflows, clinical pathways, and other practices, to maximize the benefits of team care for patients.

Qualifications

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Maintain appropriate staff levels and participating in recruitment.
  • Onboard, train and support continued development of staff.
  • Manage employee performance, effectively communicate expectations and goals and provide performance feedback and evaluation in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Complete time and attendance requirements for team, approving timesheets, time off requests, and ensure accurate and timely completion for payroll.
  • Ensure a safe, secure and legal work environment by upholding MCC’s policies and procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with valid California State License and Supervisors must be at least 2 years post-license.
  • Experience with and passion for working with populations with varying ethnic and cultural backgrounds and economic status.
  • Experience working in non-traditional mental health settings, and with non-traditional scheduling practices.
  • Experience with and ability to use multiple strategies and techniques, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, seeking safety, problem solving therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, solution focused therapies, etc., to better individualize patient intervention.
  • Experience and comfort in helping in difficult conversations, escalations, and other complex interpersonal situations.
  • Highly trained in Motivational Interviewing.
  • Experience in treating substance use disorders and other addictive disorders.
  • Experience as a BH generalist: competent and comfortable treating children, adolescents, adults, the elderly; those with mild or moderate BH needs, as well as those with more severe mental illness.
  • Experience working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Prior experience working in a shared electronic medical record preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Able to perform psychotherapy assessments and interventions in Spanish.
  • Skilled at conveying empathy and professionalism in the face of difficult interactions, and promoting a spirit of understanding and compassion.
  • Passion for clinical supervision, training, and mentorship.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and relational skills.
  • Ability and desire to work both independently and as a core member of a team.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and high tolerance for ambiguity.
  • Able to effectively communicate about behavioral health philosophies, principles, conditions, treatments, and needs, to both patients and staff, to promote understanding and decrease stigma.
  • Ability to see 4 patients per 4-hour shift.
  • Understanding that the therapeutic alliance is trans-theoretical, and is of overarching importance, outweighing any individual therapy technique.
  • Skill with Word and EPIC electronic health records preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

  • This is a hybrid work position, combination of remote and onsite work.
  • Prolonged sitting and use of computer, mouse, and keyboard.
  • This position requires frequent movement throughout our clinic and may require occasional travel among our Marin, CA clinics.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at a time.
