Overview

Marin Community Clinics, founded in 1972, is today, a multi-clinic network with a wide array of integrated primary care, dental, behavioral, specialty and referral services. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we provide vital health services to almost 40,000 individuals annually in Marin County. The Clinics regularly receive national awards from the Health Resources and Services Administrations (HRSA). Our Mission is to promote health and wellness through excellent, compassionate care for all.

 

The Facilities Director is responsible for the strategic oversight and management of all facility operations at our healthcare clinic, ensuring a high standard of safety, functionality, and regulatory compliance. This leadership role encompasses planning, directing, and coordinating all aspects of facility maintenance, equipment management, environmental services, and vendor relations. The Facilities Director works closely with executive and clinical leadership to design and implement facility strategies that support optimal patient care, efficient operations, and future growth.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of facility policies, maintenance protocols, and operational procedures in alignment with clinic goals and regulatory standards.
  • Lead and manage the facilities team, providing direction, support, and professional development to ensure high-quality performance.
  • Plan, prioritize, and execute facility upgrades, repairs, and preventive maintenance, working within budgetary constraints and timelines.
  • Collaborate with clinic leadership to identify facility needs, plan for expansions, and develop long-term capital improvement strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, state, federal, and local regulations, conducting regular audits and safety checks.
  • Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and oversee service agreements for maintenance, repairs, and supplies.
  • Prepare and manage the facilities budget, monitoring expenses and optimizing resource allocation.
  • Provide rapid response to facility emergencies, coordinating corrective action and implementing preventative measures for future incidents.
  • Analyze and report on facility performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and cost savings.
  • Oversee safety and security programs for the organization including the organizational emergency preparedness program.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Hires, trains and develops Facility Representatives on relevant duties.
  • Delegates and supervises duties of direct reports.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience and responsibility in a facilities maintenance and/or construction management environment. Healthcare experience a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, safety standards, and facility operations.
  • Proven leadership and project management skills, with the ability to direct teams and manage complex projects.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills for effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in facilities management software and budgeting processes.
  • Familiar with local building codes and OSHA regulations and other health and safety regulations.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, and a working knowledge of electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Construction management experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

  • Excellent customer service skills with ability to follow through projects and respond efficiently to staff requests. 
  • Excellent trouble shooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Intermediate working knowledge of MS Office and MS Outlook.
  • Requires strong supervisory skills, coupled with excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to train, lead and coach facilities department staff. 
  • Ability to work well with ever changing priorities and or situations.
  • Ability to define problems, and resolve them quickly.
  • Ability to work in fast pace environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with existing and potential vendors. 
  • Must be a self-starter who can work well with people at all levels both in and out of the facilities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Acts with a sense of urgency and tact when delivering services, meeting deadlines or setting goals. 
  • Valid CA driver’s license.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Use of mouse and keyboard and hand tools.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the facilities.
  • Travel among MCC locations in Marin County.
  • Ability to maintain basic records, warranties and understand written direction in manuals and websites.
