Overview

Marin Community Clinics, founded in 1972, is today, a multi-clinic network with a wide array of integrated primary care, dental, behavioral, specialty and referral services. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we provide vital health services to almost 40,000 individuals annually in Marin County. The Clinics regularly receive national awards from the Health Resources and Services Administrations (HRSA). Our Mission is to promote health and wellness through excellent, compassionate care for all.

 

The Women’s Health primary care practitioner is responsible for providing reproductive and specialty Women’s Health Care to Marin Community Clinic patients. The provider will also work collaboratively with the primary care team, with a flexible schedule based on clinic needs. The provider ideally has prior experience and the ability to add clinical skills and expand scope of practice as required by the clinic. The practitioner must be interested in learning from the Gynecologic physicians and providers at MCC and work closely with them. The provider will participate in disseminating new knowledge, guidelines, or information to non-Women’s Health providers in conjunction with the clinic Gynecology physicians.

  • One year post-licensure experience is required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills are required. 
  • Part-Time schedule - 24 hrs. per week. 

 

$30k signing bonus available for select applicants (*specific program terms apply).

Responsibilities

 

  • Provide direct patient care for reproductive and Women’s Health patients.
  • Performs mix of both Women’s Health and Primary Care across a woman’s lifespan.
  • Appropriately refer patients to MCC Gynecology physicians and/or other outside specialists.
  • Collaborate with non-Women’s Health providers in a consultation and educational capacity.
  • Communicate with patients’ PCP providers if non-reproductive health concerns are identified.
  • Communicate and coordinate with the Behavioral Health Team for patients requiring BH services.
  • Communicate with staff RNs in the dissemination and follow up of abnormal patient results and any required reporting to the county.
  • Properly input relevant medical history and follow up plans into EHR as it pertains to reproductive health.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement projects as it pertains to Women’s Health, such as cervical cancer, breast cancer, STI screening requirements.
  • Participate in audits and other required functions as assigned by the Gynecology Lead Physician in regard to Title X grant, Essential Access, CDP and Every Woman Counts programs.
  • Participate in the bi-monthly Women’s Health meetings.
  • Attend continuing medical education activities within the field to stay abreast of new treatment options, guidelines, and current practice.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Board Certified/Eligible in Gynecology, Internal Medicine, or Family Practice OR Active Physician’s Assistant or Advanced Practice Nurse certification.
  • A valid and unrestricted license issued by the Nursing Board of California or Physician’s Assistant Board of California to practice medicine.
  • One year of experience post-licensure is required. 
  • Willingness and ability to follow clinic policies, objectives and mission established by regulations, grants, management or the Board of Directors.
  • A valid and unrestricted license issued by the Medical Board of California to practice medicine OR a current registration issued by the DEA allowing the prescription of drugs.
  • Current BLS certification.

Required Skills and Abilities

 

Clinical Skills:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish is required. 
  • Proficiency in taking a sexual history.
  • Proficiency in contraceptive counseling, considering underlying medical conditions, with a patient-centered approach.
  • Proficiency in taking a family history relevant to Women’s Health.
  • Evaluation, diagnosis, and management/treatment of the following conditions:
    • Vaginitis, urinary tract infection.
    • Sexually transmitted infections.
    • Abnormal uterine bleeding, PCOS and myomas.
    • Pregnancy of unknown location, rule out ectopic pregnancy.
    • Urinary complaints such as incontinence, overactive bladder, painful bladder syndrome.
    • Chronic pelvic pain and endometriosis.
    • Adnexal masses, including rule out ovarian torsion.
    • Dyspareunia, sexual dysfunction.
    • Menopause, vasomotor symptoms, hormone therapy.
    • Infertility and pre-conception counseling.
    • Breast problems.
    • Pelvic organ prolapse.
  • Work collaboratively with the Gynecologic physicians on staff to formulate plans, initiate further work-up, and coordinate referrals of more complex patients.
  • Recognize patients outside of clinical scope and refer to MCC Gynecologic physicians for further management.
  • Identify non-reproductive health issues during patient encounters and refer them to appropriate providers such as PCP or specialist.
  • Identify preventive health and quality care issues for women and provide these services in the scope of women’s primary care.

Required Procedural Skills

 

    • Pelvic exam including external, bimanual, and speculum exam.
    • Clinical breast exam.
    • Collection and performance of wet mount, swabs for STI testing.
    • Insertion and removal of current FDA approved intrauterine devices.
    • Insertion and removal of subdermal contraceptive implants, with appropriate certification.
    • Paracervical block.
    • Endometrial biopsy.
    • Experience with vulvar biopsies preferred.
    • Experience with exam and evaluation of pelvic organ prolapse, including straight catheterization for post-void residual preferred.
    • Experience in fitting, insertion, and removal of pessaries preferred.
    • Experience in vulvar incision and drainage, insertion of Word catheter preferred.
    • Experience in treatment of genital warts preferred.

 

Preferred Skills: 

      • Colposcopy and cervical biopsy, endocervical curettage.  
      • Basic suturing.  
      • Basic post-operative management skills including removal of sutures, staples, or wound dressing.
      • Insertion and removal of indwelling catheters.
      • Basic wound care of cesarean section incisions, vulvar wounds.
      • Pelvic ultrasound including transabdominal and transvaginal for diagnosis of intrauterine pregnancy, IUD localization.

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged standing, walking, and prolonged periods sitting at desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times and move medical equipment.
  • Fine motor hand movements typical of performing standard job duties.
  • Able to read charts graphs and readings on medical equipment.

 

Covid-19 Vaccination and Boosters Requirements:

 

All employees are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, including "health-care" required boosters as a condition of employment, subject to limited exemptions. New employees are required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and boosted before the first day of employment. If you completed your primary series, received an original booster and it has been more than 2 months from that booster dose - it is recommended, but not required that you receive the Bivalent booster.
