Overview

Marin Community Clinics, founded in 1972, is today, a multi-clinic network with a wide array of integrated primary care, dental, behavioral, specialty and referral services. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we provide vital health services to almost 40,000 individuals annually in Marin County. The Clinics regularly receive national awards from the Health Resources and Services Administrations (HRSA). Our Mission is to promote health and wellness through excellent, compassionate care for all.

 

The Compañeras or Doula (Birth Coach) reports to the CPSP Case Manager Supervisor. The Compañera/Doula program connects at-risk pregnant patients with birth coaches to help ensure positive birth experiences, healthy infants and mother-child bonding. Birth coaches are trained in providing emotional, physical, moral and education support to pregnant patients before, during, and after birth.

  • 12 hrs. per week (hours may vary depending on assigned birth per month).

Responsibilities

Provides information about birth process, comfort measures, coping skills, and common procedures.

Provides unbiased evidence-based information as well as culturally appropriate emotional support.

Remain with laboring patient throughout labor and provide physical and emotional support during and after childbirth.

Be available for at least 1 to 2 deliveries per month.

Arranges and conducts face to face, phone or video meetings with prenatal patients prior to delivery.

Creates a plan with pregnant patient for initiating support needed when patient labor begins.

Works closely with MCC CPSP Case Managers to ensure resources needed are in place.

Makes appropriate recommendations to resources based on the non-medical needs of the patient.

Orients patients who are new to Marin Health on delivery process and expectations.

Participates in relationship building and communication between hospital and clinic staff.

Documents chart notes specific Birth Coaching related patient encounters in EHR. 

Attends recommended job related trainings provided by CPSP program.

Ensures Post-Delivery Companera/ Doula Birth Coach check-in are in place.

Attends recommended MCC meetings.

Ensures support services are limited to Companera/Doula scope of work.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required.
  • Doula training recommended or minimum of 1-year experience working with laboring patients.\
  • Minimum 1-year paid Perinatal (OB-GYN) experience.
  • Experience with CPSP Program is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with community resources a plus.
  • Experience in care coordination/management preferred.
  • Experience with EPIC Electronic Health Records preferred.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Bilingual Spanish/English required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently, to identify and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings is required.
  • Position floats between Marin Community Clinics and local Hospital.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time at hospital.

 

Covid-19 vaccination requirements:

New employees are required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and boosted before the first day of employment. If you completed your primary series early boosters,but have not received the most recent booster,you will be required to get the most recent booster and mask until completed if hired.
