  • Overview

    Reporting to the Clinic Director and the GYN Program Director, the GYN Care Coordinator will perform a wide range of duties in the medical office.  In addition to serving as a Medical Assistant, the GYN Care Coordinator will have specific responsibilities for coordinating care for GYN patients and work closely with the clinic directors, site medical directors and medical office staff across the organization.

    Responsibilities

    Medical Assistant Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Escorts patients to the exam room, interviews patients, measures vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight and height, and records information on patients’ charts.
    • Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
    • Drapes patients with covering and positions instruments and equipment.
    • Hands instruments and materials to doctor as directed.
    • Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
    • Inventories and requests orders for medical supplies and materials associated with in clinic GYN procedures.
    • Operates electrocardiograph (EKG), and other equipment to administer routine diagnostic test or calls medical facility or department to schedule patients for tests.
    • Gives injections or treatments, and performs routine laboratory tests.
    • Keys data into computer to maintain office and patient records.
    • Clean and disinfect operatory in accordance with department’s policy and OSHA guidelines.
    • Sterilize and disinfect instruments in accordance with department policy and OSHA guidelines.
    • Follow policy and procedures including universal precautions as defined by OSHA’s guidelines on Bloodborne Pathogens and Hazardous Materials standards.
    • Practice good people skills to maintain good public relations with patients and with fellow co-workers.
    • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance to department policy and HIPAA guidelines.
    • Attend and participate in required meetings, training and educational programs.
    • Performs administrative responsibilities, including checking eligibility, verifying demographics, assisting patients with filling out necessary paperwork, and making up follow-up appointments.
    • Perform other related work as assigned.
    • Care Team Responsibilities as outlined in the Care Team Patient Center Medical Home procedures.

     

    Gyn Care Coordinator Duties/Responsibilities

    • Complete all GYN MA Responsibilities for GYN MD Clinics
    • Complete GYN surgery case management with oversight from RN and GYN MDs.
    • Assist with GYN procedures (Essure, Leep, Colpo, MVA, etc.)
    • Assist GYN MD Specialists during clinic
    • Cover GYN Specialty phone line and GYN MA task inbox
    • Manage “GYN Care Plan List” follow up which includes f/u management of LEEP, Ovarian Cysts, Pelvic mass, Pelvic prolapse, polyps, incontinence, specialty referrals, etc.
    • GYN Surgery Case Management (See Attached)
    • Assist REI Specialist (Infertility specialist)
    • Chart-prep
    • Verify ordered diagnostics have been done before next appointment and records are in EHR.
    • During clinic, assist Specialist with translation, patient education, etc.

     

    Plus, GYN Surgery Case Management Duties

     

    Qualifications

                                                

    • One year certificate from college or technical school; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
    • At least 1 or 2 years work experience in medical clinic setting
    • Medical Assistant Certificate required
    • Current CPR certification required
    • NextGen experience a plus but not required.
    • Electronic Health Records experience a plus.
    • Bilingual (Spanish/English) language skills required
    • Must be able to work flexible hours.
    • Ability to work in fast pace medical environment
    • Must have strong computer experience with MS Office
    • Ability to provide excellent customer service to patients and outside customers in person and via phone.
    • Must be able to multi-task duties and carryout projects timely.
